Dear Dave – Malwarebytes Question from Worried in Woburn
  • dear dave

Its YOUR opportunity to ask a question, any tech related question and we will do our level best to give you our best advice.  If you want to submit a question, just send me an email to [email protected] and add “Dear Dave” to the subject line.

On to our question …

Dear Dave,

I have the free version of Malwarebytes on my laptop. I have been getting messages that a new version is ready to install. Is this OK to do and if not does the free version become obsolete……..

 Best,

Worried in Woburn

Dear Worried,

Yes, you should let Malwarebytes update, they did release a new version recently.  Keeping this up to date is the SECOND best defense against all the threats out in cyberworld.  The FIRST is you!

Happy Updating!

May I ask a follow up question here? I have not yet updated Malwarebytes (and that’s on me), but whenever I tried a question pops up asking if the computer is a personal computer or a work computer and I’m not sure how to answer it. I’m a homebased business so to me that makes the computer a work computer, but I work from home so that may make it a personal computer. Since I don’t know the implications of answering one way or another, I end up simply x’ing out of the whole process, which isn’t a good idea either. So how do I respond to the question?

You should answer that is a personal or home computer, not a work computer. Even though you use it for your home based business, its asking this to determine if you are on a domain or workgroup (which most likely, you are not).

Let me know if you need any additional help with this, and if so, you can always email me directly – [email protected]
