Remote Support FAQ

Because of recent world events, you may have experienced remote technical support for the very first time.  Perhaps, you are working from home full time now.

So, what exactly is remote support?  You have questions, here are some answers!

“What is remote support?”

Remote support is the mechanism we use to help our clients when we are not in their home or office.  We talk on the telephone, have you logon to a specific website and with your authorization we “remote control” your PC or Mac.

“What happens to my computer during a remote session?”

During a remote session, you see what one of our technicians is doing – for example clicking on the Start menu or running a utility application.  It’s just like you are using your system.

“Is that going to slow down my PC?”

No!  Once we are done helping you, nothing is left running or installed, so this would not impact your system performance in any way, except perhaps it was improved with our remote technical help!

“How do I know when they’re disconnected?”

You will get a visual notification once our technician disconnects from controlling your system.

“Can an IT person get back into my computer without me knowing it?”

ABSOLUTELY  NOT!  Once we disconnect from your system, the only way for us to access your system again is by you going to the specific website and typing in another unique code and authorizing the connection, the previous connection is never kept going, nor is the code good for more than one session.

OK, I’m sold!  What tasks can you do with remote support?

Here are some of the most common issues we fix remotely, but this is not a complete list.  When in doubt, call us and we can discuss your specific needs –

  • Software problems
  • Microsoft Office help
  • Virus/malware scan/removal
  • Data backup and recovery
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Email setup/customization
  • New PC/Mac setup and transfer of data and settings

What is the cost for remote support?
